Benue Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Weapons


The Benue State Police Command has apprehended a suspected armed robber, Liambe Orpine, and seized an AK-47 rifle, a jackknife, and three locally made Dane guns.

DSP Udeme Edet, the command’s spokesman, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday provided to reporters in Makurdi.

Edet stated that the suspect was apprehended on Friday by the Operation Zenda Joint Task Force (JTF) after receiving credible information about him in Gboko Local Government Area.

The spokesperson said the police had received reliable intelligence that a gang of armed robbers was hiding in Gboko East, plotting attacks and robberies in targeted areas.

“The team swiftly stormed the hideout and arrested one suspect, Liambe Orpine, male, 35 years of Anvambe, Buruku LGA, while other members of the gang fled upon sighting the police.

“Exhibits recovered from the hideout include one AK-47 rifle, one jackknife and three locally fabricated dane guns,” she explained.

Edet disclosed that the suspect is currently in police custody, while efforts continue to arrest the remaining fleeing gang members.

She stated that the case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

“The State Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, has commended the gallantry of the JTF operatives and reassured the citizens of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminal elements,” she added.
