Bayer Leverkusen has terminated Erik ten Hag’s tenure as head coach, effective immediately.
The decision follows a string of disappointing results and internal conflicts. The team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Hoffenheim in their opening league match and squandered a 3-1 lead to draw 3-3 against Werder Bremen, despite having a numerical advantage.
Tensions also arose between ten Hag and sporting director Simon Rolfes over player transfers, notably the potential exit of Granit Xhaka.
Ten Hag’s public demands for additional signings further strained relations within the club.In a brief statement posted on the club’s X account, Bayer Leverkusen confirmed: “Bayer 04 Leverkusen has parted ways with head coach Erik ten Hag with immediate effect.
Training will be overseen by the assistant coaching staff until further notice.”
