Bauchi NGO Empowers Women, Adolescent Girls With Skills

A Bauchi Based NGO known as Rahama Women Development Programme has empowered Women and Adolescent girls in Warji local government area of Bauchi state with skills.

The 100 graduands were beneficiaries of a three months skills Acquisition Training programme on soap, pomade and groundnut cake production. The participants given starter packs to engage in the business of their choice.

The training implemented by Rahama Women Dev Programme with funding from Development Research and project Centre focused on Village saving scheme, livelihood empowerment for women and girls as well as gender equality and economic justice.

Addressing the closing session in Katanga, headquarter of WARJI LGA, the Executive Director of Rahama, Maryam iliya commended the beneficiaries for their resilience during the training which centred

She called on the benefitting groups to step down the training to women and adolescent girls within their households and communities in order to halt idleness and poverty in Warji LGA.

Earlier,the programme officer of Rahama in charge of the Project, Barnabas Henry said the introduction of Village savings scheme alongside the empowerment training was designed to encourage participants to appreciate the importance of sustainability in ensuring effective and efficient management of profits accruing from any business venture.

In her remark, the women development officer of Warji Local Council Hajia Hadiza Mohammed described the intervention as timely considering the high level of idleness triggered by poverty, hoping beneficiaries will shun recklessness in the management of funds.

Hajia Hadiza Mohammed described women as agents of change hence the need for men to partner with them to fight poverty by instilling discipline in household financial management.

Also speaking Rahama facilitator Paris Obida listed the benefiting women and Adolescent girls groups to include Makuzi Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) group.
