Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has mourned a former News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) staff member, Mr Iliya Habila who passed away on Thursday, after protracted illness.

In a statement by Mr Mukhtar Gidado, the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity on Thursday, Mohammed described late Habila as an exemplary journalist.

He added that the deceased’s integrity, courage, and professionalism set him apart in the media landscape.

Mohammed said that, as a former Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Bauchi and Secretary of the NUJ Adamawa Council, Habila demonstrated unwavering dedication to the ethics of journalism and to the pursuit of truth.

“His contributions enriched public discourse and strengthened the democratic space in our state and beyond.

“In public service, Mr Habila distinguished himself through his humility, competence, and rare leadership qualities.

“He dutifully served as Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of Bogoro Local Government Area and was also elected Executive Chairman of the Local Government during my administration.

“In these capacities, he worked tirelessly for the development and unity of his people, leaving behind a legacy of service, accountability, and compassion,“ the governor said.

Mohammed said that, until his passing, Mr Habila remained a committed and loyal member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), advocating for progress, good governance, and peaceful coexistence.

He added that his loyalty, wisdom, and gentle disposition would be sorely missed by his colleagues, the government, and all who had the privilege of working with him.

“At this difficult moment, I pray that the Almighty God grants his soul eternal rest, comforts his family, and gives them the strength to bear this great loss,” Mohammed prayed. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
