Suspected bandits have killed a local community leader and businessman, Alhaji Muhammad Bakoshi, during an attack on Zalau village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The attackers also abducted one of his wives, Hannatu Muhammad, during the night raid on his residence.
A resident of the area, Shamsuddeen Hashimu Zalawa, told Daily Trust that the gunmen, whose number could not be ascertained, stormed the village around midnight and fired shots into the air, causing fear and confusion.

He said the attackers headed straight to the residence of the late Bakoshi, noting that the incident appeared to be targeted.
“The attack seemed to be a targeted one as they invaded only the businessman’s house, killing him and abducting his wife.
“The late Bakoshi was a businessman who owned a block industry in the community and was active in local security efforts, particularly among hunters.
He also served as the Discipline Officer of the First Aid Group of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS) in Zalau.”
He added that the deceased had two wives, with the abducted being the senior wife, while the second one, who recently gave birth, was left behind.
Efforts to get comments from the Bauchi State Police Command were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
