Barau FC Defeat Kano Pillars 2–1 In Historic NPFL Derby


Barau FC, the fast-rising football club founded by Nigeria’s Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, secured a stunning 2–1 victory over Kano Pillars in a thrilling Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Sunday.

The atmosphere was electric as Barau FC came from behind to triumph in their first-ever NPFL derby against their city rivals.

Kano Pillars took an early lead in the 20th minute through veteran midfielder Rabiu Ali, but Barau FC rallied strongly in the second half.

Abdulbari Nura equalised in the 52nd minute, and Stanley Oganbor completed the comeback with a well-taken goal in the 75th minute, sending Barau FC fans into jubilation.

The victory marks a significant turning point for the young club.

Before the encounter, Barau FC sat in 19th position on the league table, just below 18th-placed Kano Pillars.
