Bandits suspected to be loyal to the notorious terrorist kingpin Bello Turji launched a brutal overnight raid on Bargaja village in Isa Local Government Area (LGA) of Sokoto State, claiming several lives and leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.
The attack, which unfolded late Thursday night into Friday, November 7, 2025, saw armed assailants descend on the rural community with gunfire, killing at least five residents, mostly farmers caught off-guard during evening routines and critically injuring one survivor who is now receiving urgent medical attention at a local clinic.
In a chilling escalation, the gunmen abducted no fewer than 10 villagers, predominantly young women, bundling them onto motorcycles and fleeing into the surrounding forests.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as families scattered in the darkness, with screams echoing through the village as the bandits ransacked homes and selected their captives.
The assault shows the unrelenting grip of banditry on northwest Nigeria, where groups under Turji’s command have terrorized Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina states for years.
Isa LGA, a hotspot for such violence, has endured a string of similar raids in 2025, including the displacement of entire communities in May and a massacre of 11 farmers in April.
Despite military vows to neutralize Turji, declared wanted earlier this year, his faction continues to exploit vast ungoverned spaces, imposing levies, abducting for ransom, and issuing ultimatums to locals.
