Bade Emirate Lauds Buni As BioRTC Collects Over 1,300 Samples For Kidney Research

DAMATURU – The Yobe State Government has disclosed that over 1,000 blood and urine samples, along with 300 samples of soil, water, fish, vegetables, and other food items, have been collected in Bade as part of an extensive study to determine the root causes of kidney failure in the state.

This was revealed by the Special Adviser on Science, Research, and Innovation, Dr. Mahmoud Bukar Maina, who also serves as the Director of the Biomedical Science Research and Training Centre (BioRTC), during a courtesy visit to the Emir of Bade, His Royal Highness, Alh. Umar Abubakar Suleiman. The visit followed the successful completion of the first phase of sample and data collection in Bade Local Government Area.

Dr. Maina, attributing the centre’s progress to the dedicated teamwork of the BioRTC team, expressed gratitude to the Emir for his unwavering support, which he described as instrumental to the success of the project.

He explained that the research initiative is part of a broader effort by the Yobe State Government, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, to address the rising cases of kidney disease in the state.

Dr. Maina further stated that the ongoing research represents the first stage of the project, adding that a second phase will follow, focusing on individuals already diagnosed with kidney disease for further analysis.

While appreciating the people of Bade for their cooperation, he announced that BioRTC has concluded data collection in Bade and will now proceed to Damaturu for the next phase.

In his response, the Emir of Bade, His Royal Highness, Alh. Umar Abubakar Suleiman, commended Governor Mai Mala Buni for directing BioRTC at Yobe State University to conduct research on the causes of kidney disease.

The royal father noted that Bade Emirate has been battling rising cases of kidney failure for over a decade, emphasizing that the dedication of Dr. Maina and his team would be greatly rewarded by God Almighty.

Speaking earlier, the Chief Medical Director of Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. Baba Waru Goni, also commended the Emir for his continued support of healthcare initiatives in the state.
