AVM Sunday Kelvin Aneke Sworn In as Nigeria’s 23rd Chief of the Air Staff



In a historic handover ceremony at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke stepped into the role of the 23rd Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), vowing to build on a legacy of valor and innovation amid Nigeria’s ongoing battle for security.

Assuming command with a mix of honor and resolve, AVM Aneke called his elevation “a tremendous privilege and a solemn duty,” committing to steer the NAF with humility, integrity, and a laser focus on safeguarding the nation’s skies. 

He lavished praise on his predecessor, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, hailing the outgoing CAS for his “exceptional leadership, professionalism, and courage” in navigating the force through critical counter-terrorism operations.

Aneke spotlighted Abubakar’s enduring contributions to excellence and national service, pledging to amplify these achievements and keep the momentum alive in fostering a more agile and effective air arm.

In a heartfelt farewell address, Air Marshal Abubakar reflected on his tenure as a divine opportunity to serve, crediting divine guidance for propelling the NAF into a transformative epoch. 

He highlighted key triumphs like boosted operational prowess, ramped-up training initiatives, and Nigeria’s prestigious takeover of the Association of African Air Forces chairmanship.

Handing over the reins, Abubakar described Aneke as a “proven officer of integrity, dedication, and competence,” imploring him to prioritize troop well-being, preserve hard-won progress, and cultivate a battle-hardened yet compassionate force. 

He paused to honor the sacrifices of fallen comrades, extending deep thanks to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, fellow military brass, peers, and his loved ones for their steadfast backing.

Grateful and resolute in his response, AVM Aneke thanked President Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief for entrusting him with this pivotal charge, while underscoring the NAF’s “unflinching loyalty to the President, the Constitution, and the Nigerian people.” 

He outlined bold visions to deepen joint operations with sister services, sharpen combat readiness, and fortify the security framework essential for Nigeria’s stability, growth, and renewal.

Aneke also extended warm nods to the Tenth National Assembly, Armed Forces comrades, and his family circle for their unwavering encouragement. 

As the baton passes seamlessly, the Nigerian Air Force launches into a fresh chapter under Aneke’s command one fueled by ironclad discipline, cutting-edge ingenuity, and a relentless mission drive.
