Attacks on Kano Protocol DG a Political move against Gov Yusuf – Daily Trust

Despite being cleared of corruption allegations by a Kano High Court, the Director-General of Protocol to the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ibrahim Rogo, has continued to face sustained attacks, which are considered politically motivated.

On August 18, 2025, the High Court of Kano State ruled that the allegations against Rogo were unsubstantiated and that pursuing them further would infringe on his constitutional rights.

The judgment, legal experts noted, amounted to a clean slate for the government official.

However, fresh media reports and political commentaries continue to recycle the claims, prompting speculation that Rogo has become a proxy target in an attempt to weaken Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration.

Political analysts said that the persistence of the allegations, despite the court ruling, suggests a broader strategy.

“If Rogo had truly done wrong, the EFCC or ICPC would have acted. They have not. If the goal was justice, the Court’s judgment would have been respected. It has not,” one analyst noted.

Critics of the campaigns argue that by painting Rogo as corrupt, political opponents hope to cast a shadow on the Governor’s integrity and diminish public confidence in his government ahead of the 2027 elections.

Supporters of the administration insist that the allegations are nothing more than smear tactics. They point out that neither the Governor nor his aide has been indicted by any competent authority.

“This is not about corruption; it is about politics,” a source close to the Government said. “The Governor will be judged by the people at the ballot box, not in the court of gossip. Rogo’s name should not be used as a pawn in this battle.”

The development underscores Kano’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s most politically charged states, where aides and associates are often drawn into controversies as proxies for larger political struggles.
