Following the recent attacks by gunmen in the Ovie Southwest local government area of Edo state, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has conducted assessment at the affected communities.
This was contained in a statement issued from the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja Friday.
According to the statement, the assessment was led by the Head of NEMA Edo Operations Office, Mr. Kenoma Ojuederie, in conjunction with the Edo State Emergency Management Agency (EDOSEMA), headed by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Jerry Idahosa.
“The attacks reportedly impacted eight communities; however, the assessment team was only able to visit four due to ongoing tensions in the remaining areas. During their visit, the team engaged with displaced persons, expressing the government’s sympathy and urging them to remain calm and peaceful.
“Many of the displaced victims are currently seeking temporary shelter in various camps, while those injured are receiving medical treatment at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital and Ignobazuwa General Hospital,” the statement read in part.
NEMA, however, noted the situation “remains critical and efforts are in full swing to provide support and ensure the safety of the affected communities.”
