Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar took a swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration via an X post, slamming the “empty Nigerian booth” at TICAD 9 as a symbol of governance failures.
“Two years into this administration, we are probably waiting for an official inauguration or preferably an ‘unveiling’ of Renewed Hope before Nigerians can experience good governance,” he wrote, mocking the APC’s flagship agenda.
The unoccupied booth at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) sparked criticism, with Atiku calling it a “show of shame” that reflects Nigeria’s lack of preparedness.
The summit, where Japan pledged $5.5 billion for Africa, was seen as a missed opportunity for Nigeria to showcase its potential.
Atiku’s post drew mixed reactions on X. Critics echoed his sentiments, with one user stating, “An empty booth at TICAD? Nigeria deserves better!”
Supporters, however, defended Tinubu, citing ongoing reforms like the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund.
The incident has fueled debates about Nigeria’s global image and the administration’s progress as the 2027 elections approach.
