Assaulted Anambra NYSC Member Narrates Ordeals: “I Saw Masked Man With Gun”

Jennifer Elohor Edema, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, who was assaulted by the Anambra vigilantes, has narrated her ordeal at the hands of the group.

On Tuesday, August 19, a video of the operatives of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group went viral on social media, where they physically assaulted the female serving corps member and her colleagues at their lodge in the southeast state.

In the video, which was reportedly filmed on July 23, Elohor was seen being beaten and stripped by the operatives who were carrying guns.

According to The Cable, she narrated that the armed men stormed the corps members’ lodge and accused them of being involved in internet fraud.

A legal non-profit organisation gave an account ot the incident, stating that despite the NYSC members showing the vigilante operatives their identification cards, they proceeded to beat them, and the assault on Elohor was particularly severe.

The incident had generated widespread condemnation in the country, a reaction from the NYSC and a subsequent arrest of the vigilante men.

Elohor narrated that she and other corps members were in their room at about 5 pm when the security operatives started knocking on their door aggressively, which they later kicked open.

In her narrative, a masked and armed man entered the room; he was not wearing a uniform and did not identify himself.

How many corps members were assaulted in Anambra?

Elohor disclosed that she and her colleagues tried to explain to the intruder that they were NYSC members, showing him their identity cards, but they were ignored.

She alleged that their room was ransacked by the men, who then took their laptops and phones and also became violent.

The corps member noted that nine of them were forced into the vigilantes’ vehicles, and they were slapped and then threatened. They were told that their phones would be smashed if they reached out to anyone.

Assault on NYSC members: Soludo’s wife takes action

Legit.ng earlier reported that the First Lady of Anambra state, Nonye Soludo, took two major actions in favour of the NYSC member who was reportedly assaulted by the state security outfit.

The wife of the governor revealed that she had invited Jennifer Elohor to figure out a way to resolve the issue and ensure the incident does not traumatise her.

In a now viral video, some members of the vigilantes stormed a hostel in Oba, Anambra state and allegedly assaulted and stripped the female corps member Jennifer Edema Elohor in public.
