The Traditional ruler of Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra state, Owelle Maximus Ike Oliobi has dragged his two community leaders to court for allegedly assaulting him and members of his cabinet at a burial.
Ike Oliobi, in a three count charge number ANJ/21c/2025 filed at Abagana Magistrate court 3, alleged that the defendants Messrs Chukwuemeka Ezeaputa, aged 35 and Chigbo Aniedobe, 39, who are youth provost and Ist president-general, Nimo Town Development Union respectively, committed the crime on February 20, 2025.
He alleged that the defendants and others at large, conspired among themselves to push and shove him around at the venue of the funeral ceremony of wife of an illustrious son of the town, Chief Bobby Chinedu-Moore, SAN, thereby putting fear and physical injuries on him and his cabinet by threatening to deal with them.
The three charges, Blueprint gathered, are punishable under sections 496(a) and 252 of the Criminal Code cap. 36 vol. 11 Revised Laws of Anambra state of Nigeria, 1991 respectively.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty of the three count charges and were granted bail by the Magistrate, Obiora Nwajiaku at the sum of N300,000 each with two sureties who must be residents within the Magisterial jurisdiction.
The matter was further adjourned to 2nd of April, 2025 for continuation of hearing.
As a result, the community members numbering over 150 who besieged the Court premises in solidarity with the defendants, erupted in jubilation when the bail conditions of their accused leaders were perfected.
