Super Falcons star, Asisat Oshoala, has added another milestone to her glittering career after being named a Goodwill Ambassador for the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The announcement was made in Rabat ahead of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, with CAF describing Oshoala as “a beacon of hope for millions of African girls.”
From humble beginnings in Lagos to global football glory, the 30-year-old has become a powerful symbol of excellence, discipline, and inspiration for young athletes across Africa.
Champion for women and youth
Beyond her football brilliance, Oshoala has long used her platform to uplift others. Through the Asisat Oshoala Foundation, she’s helped hundreds of young girls access education and sporting opportunities, using football as a tool for empowerment.
Accepting the CAF honour, Oshoala said the appointment was “a call to action,” promising to use her voice to push for more opportunities for women in sports.
Her new ambassadorial role fits perfectly with CAF’s goal to increase women’s participation in football by 30% before 2030, under its Women’s Football Development Programme.
A proud moment for Nigeria
The news has sparked excitement across Nigeria’s sporting community. Nigeria Football Federation President, Ibrahim Gusau, hailed the announcement as “a proud moment for Naija,” while global partners such as Nike and GSMA praised CAF’s decision.
Oshoala, who now plays for Al Hilal in the Saudi Women’s Premier League, continues to set records and inspire fans around the world.
As she prepares to lead the Super Falcons at the Women’s AFCON in Morocco, her latest honour further cements her legacy as one of Africa’s most influential athletes on and off the pitch.
