Italian Serie A side, AS Roma have parted ways with club legend, Daniele De Rossi due to a run of poor results at the start of the 2024-2025 season.
AS Roma currently sit in the 16th spot on the Serie A table, leading to the dismissal of Daniele De Rossi after just four matches into the new season.
De Rossi took over as the head coach in January 2024, and initially, there was optimism surrounding the team’s future.
However, the team’s winless start to the season, including three draws and a home loss to Empoli, led to the decision to relieve De Rossi of his duties.
The club expressed gratitude to De Rossi for his passion and dedication, acknowledging his positive impact during his tenure, where he helped the team climb to sixth place in the previous season and reach the semi-finals of the Europa League.
“AS Roma announces that Daniele De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team”, the club’s statement reads.
“The club’s decision is made in the best interests of the team, to get back on the desired path as soon as possible at a time when the season is still in its early stages.
“A heartfelt thank you to Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorossi club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication.”
AS Roma had a busy summer transfer window, making several signings including Matías Soulé, Artem Dovbyk, Enzo Le Fée, Angeliño, Samuel Dahl, Saud Abdulhamid, and Buba Sangaré.
They also brought in Mathew Ryan, Mario Hermoso, and Mats Hummels on free transfers, while making loan deals for players like Alexis Saelemaekers and Manu Koné.
On the departures side, notable players such as Chris Smalling, Tammy Abraham, Romelu Lukaku, Andrea Belotti, Rui Patricio, and Leonardo Spinazzola have left the club for various destinations.
