Arsenal have suffered an injury setback ahead of their Champions League encounter with Slavia Prague, as Viktor Gyokeres was absent from training following his early substitution in the 2-0 win over Burnley.
The £55m striker, who opened the scoring before being withdrawn at half-time, was missing as Mikel Arteta’s side trained on Monday at London Colney.
Arteta confirms ‘muscular niggle’
According to reports, Gyokeres’ absence follows a “muscular niggle” sustained against Burnley. Arteta confirmed after the match:

“That was one of the best games he has played. His performance was exceptional, his high press, his running in behind, the way he linked play. It’s a shame he felt something, so we had to take him off.”
With Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and Gabriel Jesus also sidelined, Arsenal’s attacking depth is wearing thin.
Makeshift forward Mikel Merino, who replaced Gyokeres at Turf Moor, could lead the line in Prague, while teenage prospect Andre Harriman-Annous may be drafted into the squad.
Selection dilemma for Arteta
Arteta’s tactical options have been further limited with Kepa Arrizabalaga also missing training for undisclosed reasons.
Martin Zubimendi took part but will miss the Prague trip through suspension. The Gunners’ impressive nine-match winning streak across all competitions now faces a serious test, especially with crucial fixtures against Sunderland and Tottenham looming.
Arsenal await injury update
Gyokeres’ injury comes just as he was finding form in England after joining from Sporting CP in a £55m move last summer.
The 25-year-old has scored six goals in 14 appearances this season, earning praise for his work rate and intelligent movement.
Arsenal’s medical team will assess the striker’s fitness before the midweek fixture, but an extended absence could disrupt the side’s attack.
