The Nigerian Army has approved the promotion of 105 senior officers to the ranks of Major General and Brigadier General, according to a statement released on Friday.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by Lt.-Col. Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations.
She said the Army Council reached the decision on Thursday.
According to her, 28 Brigadier Generals were promoted to Major General, while 77 Colonels moved up to Brigadier General.
Those promoted to Major General include Brig.-Gen. O. Adegbe of the Defence Intelligence Agency; Brig.-Gen. S.M. Uba, Director of Defence Information; Brig.-Gen. R.E. Hedima, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence (Army); and Brig.-Gen. R.T. Utsaha, Deputy Director, Defence Operations.
Others on the list are Brig.-Gen. A.M. Umar, Commandant of the Warrant Officer Academy; Brig.-Gen. S. Sulaiman, Deputy Military Secretary (Army); Brig.-Gen. I.O. Bassey, Director of the Nigerian Army Operations Centre; and Brig.-Gen. C.A. Ekeator of the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering.
Also promoted were Brig.-Gen. S.Y. Yakasai, Acting Director of Procurement in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff; Brig.-Gen. W.L. Nzidee of the Army Logistics Department; Brig.-Gen. S.A. Emmanuel of Nigerian Army Signals; Brig.-Gen. S.S. Tilawan, Acting Commander of Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI; Brig.-Gen. M.O. Agi of the NDA TETFund Desk; Brig.-Gen. I.M. Abbas, Commander 34 Brigade; and Brig.-Gen. Z.A. Saidu, who was promoted posthumously.
The newly elevated Brigadier Generals were drawn from different army formations and units, including the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Army Headquarters Garrison, Defence Headquarters, Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji, Nigerian Army Dog Centre, 9 Brigade, 401 Special Forces Brigade, the Nigerian Army Medical Corps and several Army reference hospitals.
Congratulating the officers and their families, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, urged them to show strong leadership and live up to expectations.
He encouraged them to cultivate bold, innovative and unconventional solutions to address Nigeria’s changing security threats.
Shaibu also reminded them of their duty to the country, saying their loyalty to the Constitution must remain absolute, unwavering and beyond reproach.
