APC vows to retire Amaechi, Omehia’s political careers after 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State has vowed to end the political dominance of former governors Rotimi Amaechi and Celestine Omehia after the 2027 general elections.

Obinna Ekem, Director-General of the Ikwerre APC Campaign Organisation for the August 30 local government election, made the declaration while addressing party supporters during the grand finale of their rally in Omagwa community on Sunday.

Ekem expressed optimism that the APC would secure victory in all 13 wards of the LGA in the forthcoming council polls, citing strong support from residents.
He further assured that the party was positioning itself for a resounding win in 2027, pledging a landslide for President Bola Tinubu despite the opposition alliance involving Amaechi and Omehia.

According to Ekem, Ikwerre remains firmly under APC’s control despite being the home base of both Amaechi and Omehia. He argued that under Amaechi’s leadership, the APC suffered repeated defeats, but with his defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party now has brighter electoral prospects.

He also urged President Tinubu to focus on national political heavyweights such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Senate President David Mark, assuring that the Ikwerre APC would take charge of Amaechi and Omehia locally.

Meanwhile, Rivers State APC Chairman Tony Okocha, who enjoys the backing of the party’s national secretariat, called on residents of Ikwerre not to allow any single political party to dominate the upcoming local government election.

He added that the exercise is expected to be more credible than the October 2024 polls conducted under the suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, which were later nullified by the Supreme Court.
