The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended Mr. Valentine Asuen, its 2023 Edo South senatorial candidate, over alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension was announced on Monday, in a statement issued in Benin by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie.
He explained that the decision was made in line with the APC’s constitution and disciplinary framework.

“Asuen has been suspended in accordance with the provisions of the APC Constitution 2022, as amended, as he has been found culpable of actions capable of inciting division within the party,” Uwadiae-Igbinigie said.
He stressed that the former senatorial candidate’s conduct contravened Articles 21:2 (ii) & (v), and 21:5 (a), (c), (d), (e), (f) & (h) of the APC Constitution, adding that such offences are punishable by suspension or expulsion.
“This disciplinary action became necessary following his conduct, which runs contrary to the spirit of unity, loyalty, and collective progress enshrined in our constitution.
“No act capable of destabilising the party or inciting disaffection amongst members will be condoned,” he stated.
The APC spokesman also dismissed insinuations of bias in political appointments, noting that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s appointments had been “evenly distributed across the state.”
Uwadiae-Igbinigie urged party members to remain united and committed to APC’s vision.
“The APC remains committed to internal democracy, discipline, and the protection of its integrity.
“ We call on all members to remain steadfast, united, and committed to delivering good governance and democratic dividends to the people,” he said.
