APC speaks on Ganduje’s resignation speculation as NEC meeting begins

3 hours ago 23

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed speculation that President Bola Tinubu may ask Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman, to step down after the ongoing National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

Ajibola Basiru, the party’s national secretary, refuted the claim in the wee of Wednesday.

Addressing rumours about Ganduje’s possible removal, Basiru described them as baseless.

“There is nothing like that. The NEC is a routine meeting and not an elective one. We have been trying to have it since September last year. But now, it is confirmed we will have a national caucus on Tuesday and an NEC on Wednesday,” he said to The Punch.

According to him, the meeting’s agenda includes discussing the party’s plans for 2025, reviewing financial statements as required by electoral law, and providing updates on the upcoming re-registration of party members.

“We will also give reports about the re-registration of members of the party that will commence very soon and then brief the leadership about the Progressive Institute that has been established by the party as an intellectual and ideological arm of the party,” Basiru added.

He emphasised that the NEC meeting will serve as a platform for APC leaders and stakeholders to deliberate on key party matters in what he described as a “carnival-like session.”
