APC Reschedules Governor Agbu Kefas’ Defection to January 2026

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba State has officially moved the planned defection of Governor Agbu Kefas from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to January 2026.

The ceremony, originally scheduled for November 19, 2025, was postponed indefinitely by the governor following the abduction of female students from the Federal Government College, Birnin Yauri, in Kebbi State.

Speaking at a press conference in Jalingo on Sunday, the state APC Chairman, Ibrahim Tukur, confirmed the new timeline, stating that Governor Kefas will formally join the ruling party early next year.

Tukur also announced that the party’s state working committee has taken disciplinary action against some ward executives for breaching the APC constitution.

He urged all aggrieved members to utilise internal conflict resolution mechanisms before seeking legal redress in court.

In a related development, the state leadership reversed the suspension of the member representing Mbamga Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, Hon. Abel Peter Diah, who had been sanctioned by his ward executives over alleged anti-party activities.

Dismissing claims by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar that the PDP would reclaim Taraba State, Tukur described such assertions as “a daydream and a joke taken too far,” insisting that the APC has firmly taken control of the Taraba Government House and has no intention of relinquishing it.
