APC Refutes Claims of Canadian Court Labeling Party Terrorist Organisation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has debunked media reports falsely claiming that a Canadian court declared the party a terrorist organization, calling the reports erroneous and potentially mischievous.

In a statement issued on August 15, 2025, by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, CON, the APC clarified that the Canadian court made no such declaration.

The reports stemmed from a June 17, 2025, judicial review case involving Douglas Egharevba and the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.

The case centered on Egharevba’s inadmissibility to Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) due to his membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which the court found had engaged in subversive acts against Nigeria’s electoral process.

The court’s decision, delivered by Judge Phuong T.V. Ngo, dismissed Egharevba’s application, affirming the Immigration Appeal Division’s finding that the PDP’s actions constituted subversion under IRPA’s paragraph 34(1)(b.1).

The judge explicitly stated, “I will therefore refrain from analyzing the IAD’s findings on terrorism,” confirming no determination was made on terrorism.

The APC noted that its only mention in the 16-page ruling was in a background section, where Egharevba claimed membership in the APC from December 2007 to May 2017.

The party refuted this, stating it was not registered until 2013, rendering Egharevba’s claim false.

Morka emphasized that the APC was not a party to the proceedings, and any declaration against it would have been an overreach, lacking jurisdiction and international applicability.

The party urged its members, supporters, and Nigerians to disregard the misleading reports.
