APC Jittery, Trying To Stifle Democracy As Opposition Plots Masterstroke – Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has raised concerns over the political maneuverings ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, some opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, have been strategic in their political moves ahead of the polls.

He also noted that former Anambra State governor Peter Obi played a key role, stressing that together, they have successfully outsmarted President Bola Tinubu’s camp with calculated political strategies.

Momodu suggested that these leaders deliberately created confusion within the ruling party before eventually unveiling their plans under the ADC banner, which he described as “a masterstroke.”

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme on Friday, Momodu argued that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is unsettled by the possibility of a strong opposition front.

He claimed that the party is working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure President Bola Tinubu emerges as a consensus candidate in 2027.

“It’s obvious that the ruling party is jittery. They do not want any strong competition in 2027.

“What they want is a sole candidate, and that sole candidate is the president,” he said.

He accused government agents of attempting to destabilize parties by creating factions.

“They have done it in Labour, they are doing it in PDP, and even NNPP.

“But the ADC leaders tightened all the screws to protect the party,” he explained.

Momodu added: “Those who worked on ADC are very experienced politicians.

“People thought they were heading to SDP, but suddenly ADC came, and that shocked everyone.”

He further cautioned: “It is a shame that after all we went through during the military era, a civilian government would try to stifle democracy.

“I appeal to the judiciary, do not fall for coercion. Live for legacy.”
