Few days after Kano Pillars fans unleashed mayhem during a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match, another blood-laden violence has hit the country’s apex League body striving to survive.
This time around, Katsina United fans have allegedly attacked Barau FC player while a match is on between two northern rivals were on.
The incident eventually halted the match.
The violence broke out moments after Barau’s Orji Kalu scored a 69th-minute equaliser to make the game 1-1, a development that appeared to infuriate some Katsina United supporters at the stadium.
Trending video showed on Saturday that Nana Abraham, a Barau FC player was attacked, with a deep cut left on his neck by enraged fans of the home team Katsina United.
Barau FC, confirming the attack in a post on its official X handle, wrote: “70’ The match is temporarily halted following an attack on Barau FC player, Nana Abraham. Katsina United | 1-1 | Barau FC.”
The NPFL organisers are yet to speak on the incident hours after.
