Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad for December has been released, and fans were surprised to see goalkeeper Andre Onana and veteran forward Vincent Aboubakar omitted.
The duo, considered two of the Indomitable Lions’ most experienced players, will not feature in this month’s tournament.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the decision on Monday, noting that both Onana and Aboubakar had been left out of the final squad.
The absence of Onana, who has played for top European clubs, and Aboubakar, a long-serving captain, reflects a new approach by Cameroon’s refreshed coaching leadership.
Onana, who recently struggled for game time at Manchester United, is currently on loan at Turkish side Trabzonspor for the remainder of the 2025–26 season.
The Indomitable Lions will now rely on younger and less-experienced players.
