The governorship candidate of Action Alliance (AA) in the Anambra governorship election, Ozo Jeff Nweke, has commended the conduct of voters so far and their unexpected large turnout during the election.
Addressing journalists shortly after casting his vote at Ogbugbankwa polling unit, Awka, Ozo Nweke said: “There is no voter apathy as we haven’t witnessed it much as it was last time. People have turned out en masse to exercise their franchise.
” People have really impressed me so much in knowing the need for good governance in our democratic system. That is why they are so excited and enthusiastic about coming out today to make a statement. There is no better way to say the turnout is very encouraging.”
He continued, “Indeed, our democracy in Nigeria has come of age, and one can say we have a democracy. However, as far as this exercise is concerned, it has been so good even though the election is still ongoing.
”The day has not ended as people are still casting their votes without any manner of intimidation or otherwise. I hope the peaceful nature of the election will continue till the day goes to sleep”.
Ozo Nweke expressed his appreciation of the technical functions of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, stating that the Commission really wanted to prove a point different from the previous experiences.
He continued: ” I am personally happy with INEC, together with the manner the election is going on at this polling unit in Ogbugbankwa, Awka. Though we are observing some skirmishes still, it has been commendable so far#
