The Anambra State Government has announced plans to empower 8,300 youths with N3.5 billion under the second batch of its 1Youth2Skills Plus programme.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Aghamba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to Aghamba, the initiative is designed to help beneficiaries establish and expand businesses after undergoing entrepreneurial and vocational training.

He explained that the graduation and empowerment ceremony will take place on Tuesday, September 23, at the International Conference Centre, Awka, with Governor Chukwuma Soludo personally presenting the financial packages.

“The Governor will equally unveil other initiatives aimed at creating a new generation of millionaires and smart entrepreneurs in Anambra,” the commissioner said.

He recalled that 5,000 youths benefited from the first batch of the programme, receiving N2 billion alongside mentorship and cooperative assistance.

Aghamba stressed that the expansion of the programme reflects government’s determination to bring more young people into productive ventures.

“Soludo’s administration is determined to make Anambra a hub of innovation, productivity and prosperity by building the next set of millionaires in the state.

“We appreciate the governor for sustaining the revolutionary investment in the future of Anambra youths,” he stated.

The commissioner also urged the beneficiaries to see the package not as a mere handout but as an opportunity to innovate, grow, and create jobs.

The 1Youth2Skills programme trains young people in areas such as agriculture, ICT, fashion, crafts, services, and catering.

Meanwhile, the state government recently disclosed plans to build a new airport at Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area, less than four years after inaugurating the Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport in Umeri.
