An opinion poll result released in Abuja on Saturday regarding the forthcoming 2025 Anambra State governorship election indicated that Chukwuma Umeoji (54.6%) was receiving majority support across different demographics.
He was closely followed by the incumbent Governor, Chukwuma Soludo (22.3%), who also retained significant support but faces challenges due to governance concerns, policy controversies, and shifting voter sentiments.
Senator Tony Nwoye (15.8%) was also among the top contenders, while Dr Obiora Okonkwo (2.1%) and Barth Nwibe (0.7%) also had impressive support from the people for different reasons.
Conducted under the aegis of Anambra Opinion Polls (AOP), the undersigned 12 independent research organisations confirmed that the opinion poll was free, fair, and transparent, designed to determine the political preferences of the electorate ahead of the Anambra State governorship election.
Tabuko Kennedy, Director General, Nigeria Democratic Research Institute (NDRI), on behalf of the 12 undersigned independent research organisations, told journalists at a press conference in Abuja that the opinion poll was conducted using scientific polling methodologies, including structured questionnaires, face-to-face and telephone interviews, and online sampling, ensuring representation from all 21 local government areas of the state.
He added that the findings reflect the true aspirations of Anambra people, as gathered from a diverse cross-section of the population, including youths, professionals, traders, artisans, and traditional institutions.
He said: “The opinion poll was conducted by 12 reputable research organizations known for their integrity, methodological rigor, and commitment to democracy. These organizations have a proven track record of conducting accurate, independent, and non-partisan research in Nigeria and beyond.
“These institutions specialise in political polling, electoral research, governance analysis, and voter awareness initiatives. They have individually participated in previous opinion polls, electoral monitoring, and socio-political research across Nigeria and West Africa.
“The methodologies are rooted in globally accepted best practices, ensuring fairness, transparency, and credibility. By employing rigorous sampling techniques and ensuring broad representation across demographics, these organizations have provided accurate reflection of voter sentiment in Anambra State. Their collective reputation reinforces the authenticity and neutrality of the poll results.”
He thus urged all political stakeholders in Anambra State to recognise the credibility and neutrality of the opinion poll as a reflection of the people’s will.
He also called on candidates to engage in issue-based campaigns, while the electorate actively participate in shaping the future of Anambra State through their votes.
“We remain committed to fostering transparency, democracy, and voter education, and we will continue to monitor political trends leading up to the elections,” he added.
