Anambra: CP Storms Onitsha, Flags Off Statewide Security Evaluation Ahead Of Guber Election

In a decisive move to ensure a peaceful and credible gubernatorial election in Anambra State, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, mnips, PhD, on Monday, 20th October 2025, led a high-powered operational tour and evaluation exercise across Police Area Commands to assess the preparedness of personnel for election duties.

The exercise, which kicked off at the Onitsha Area Command, featured a high-visibility patrol through major routes and strategic locations within the commercial city. CP Orutugu, who personally led the patrol team, addressed officers and men on the importance of discipline, professionalism, and absolute neutrality during the forthcoming polls.

Reiterating the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to safeguarding democracy, the Police boss charged officers to uphold the integrity of the Force by maintaining law and order before, during, and after the election. He affirmed that the Command, under his leadership, is fully mobilized to guarantee a peaceful electoral process in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM.

While inspecting operational formations, Police posts, and checkpoints, CP Orutugu ensured that deployed personnel were alert, well-equipped, and strategically positioned. He praised the synergy between the Police and sister security agencies, describing it as vital to the success of election security operations.

The Commissioner urged Ndi Anambra to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security operatives, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police station.
