Nigeria’s gold medal hopeful Tobi Amusan topped the list of athletes heading to Douala, Cameroon for the 23rd African Senior Athletics Championship, ahead of the forthcoming Olympics Games in Paris.

The world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles is joined by sprinter and long jumper Ese Brume, as well as a host of other athletes looking to clinch medals and/or qualify for their respective track and field events at the Games in July.

Team Nigeria will be looking to better the one bronze medal won by Brume at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Amusan finished first at the recently held athletics meet for Nigeria contingents in Benin City.

She set a world record time of 12:40 seconds in the women’s hurdles in a meeting in Kingston, Jamaica in May, 2024.

The Ogun state born athlete is currently in the form of her life after beating her own world record twice within the space of one year, giving Nigeria the hopes of winning her first ever gold medal on the track.

For the next one week, 40 Nigerian athletes will be slugging it out with their counterparts from the rest of Africa for medals in Douala.
