Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has admitted that he sometimes “hates” his players in a press conference following the club’s shock Carabao Cup exit to League Two side Grimsby Town.
United suffered one of their lowest moments in recent memory on Tuesday night, surrendering a two-goal lead before losing 12-11 on penalties to Grimsby, a result that has intensified pressure on Amorim’s already turbulent tenure.

Speaking to the media ahead of United’s Premier League clash with Burnley, Amorim confessed to feeling conflicted about his squad and even revealed that he has considered walking away from the job.
“Sometimes I want to quit. Sometimes I want to be here for 20 years,” he said. “Sometimes I love to be with my players; sometimes I don’t want to be with them. Sometimes I hate my players; sometimes I love my players. This is my way of doing things, and I’m going to be like that.”
The Portuguese coach admitted that his emotions often boil over after defeats and acknowledged criticism of his media handling, but insisted he would not change his approach.
“I felt in that moment I was so frustrated and annoyed,” Amorim explained. “People say I should be calmer and more consistent with the media, but I’m not going to be like that.”
United’s shock defeat has left the club in turmoil, with questions mounting over Amorim’s leadership and his relationship with the dressing room as he prepares to face Burnley in a crucial league fixture.
