Amazon Takes Creative Control Of James Bond Franchise In New Joint Venture

2 days ago 25

Amazon MGM Studios has gained creative control of the James Bond franchise, marking a new era for the iconic spy series.

Amazon MGM Studios will assume creative control of the James Bond film franchise under a new joint venture with longtime rights holders Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, Amazon announced on Thursday.

Amazon acquired MGM Studios in 2022 as part of its media expansion, gaining distribution rights to the iconic spy series but not creative control.

Under the new agreement, all parties will remain co-owners of the franchise, but Amazon will play a more direct role in shaping its future.

“With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects,” Wilson said.

The James Bond film series is one of the most successful franchises in cinema history, with more than 25 films and billions of dollars in box office revenue.

The move gives Amazon a greater foothold in the media industry as it competes with streaming giant Netflix.

A major focus of the franchise’s future is the search for a new actor to take over the role of Bond after Daniel Craig stepped down in 2021. Speculation has swirled around actors such as Idris Elba and Henry Cavill, but no official casting decision has been announced.
