After being acquitted of sexual assault and spending 14 months in prison, Dani Alves has become an evangelical preacher at a church in Girona.

Alves, who made 408 appearances for the Blaugrana over two spells and also featured for Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain, was previously found guilty of misconduct involving a woman at a Barcelona nightclub in 2022.

In a viral video which appeared online, saw the bearded ex-player picking up a microphone and receiving applause from the Elim church’s congregation.

Alves declared: “You must take God seriously and have faith. I am the living proof.

“What God promises, He delivers. I have agreed a pact with God.

“In the midst of turbulence and storms, there is always a messenger from God.

“This messenger gathered me up and brought me to the church.

“And now I am on the right path, thanks to him.”
