“For too long, the national conversation about universities has been dominated by government and unions,” said ANUA National Chairman, Professor Yakubu Ochefu. “Alumni must step forward as stakeholders to rethink funding, governance, and the global competitiveness of our graduates.”

The conference is set to address two urgent questions: Why Nigerian graduates struggling to meet global standards, and how universities fund themselves sustainably. Delegates will explore alumni endowments, industry-university partnerships, and governance reforms as part of broader solutions.

Strengthening employability, expanding research, and restoring the value of a Nigerian degree are expected to dominate discussions.

The Governor of Bauchi State will formally open the event, signaling state-level commitment to university development. Distinguished sessions include Professor Saminu Ibrahim, former Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, delivering the keynote address and Architect Chris Uloko, ANUA Trustee, leading a session on “University Business Eco-Systems” to explore income diversification beyond tuition and government support as well as a strategic roundtable led by Professor Ochefu on “Rethinking the Nigerian University System: The Alumni Perspective.”

Founded as the umbrella body for all Nigerian university alumni associations, ANUA says its mission is to build bridges between graduates and their alma maters.
