The Yobe state Police command has announced a major breakthrough in the investigation of a female corpse found near the Federal University Gashua last week, leading to the shocking arrest of a local political and market leader.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Command revealed that its operatives from Bade Division have apprehended one Abdulmumini Garba, 60, in connection with the death of 45-year-old Falmata Abubakar.
The suspect, a resident of Gasma in Karasuwa LGA, holds dual positions of influence as the Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Karasuwa and the Secretary of the Vegetables Market (Kasuwan Gwari) in Gashua.
According to the police, the arrest followed “diligent investigation and sustained intelligence efforts” into the recovery of the corpse on October 17, 2025.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the events leading to the victim’s death.
Garba admitted to conveying late Falmata Abubakar in his vehicle, during which an argument broke out.
The argument was reportedly over the victim’s request for financial assistance to support her business.
The altercation turned physical and tragically resulted in Abubakar’s death inside the vehicle.
“Realising that she had died, the suspect stated that he subsequently disposed of the body in a nearby bush at about 2200hrs on the same date — the spot where the corpse was later discovered,” the police statement read.
The Command described the development as a “testament to its proactive intelligence-gathering capacity and the tactical operational strategies” deployed by the Bade Division, which led to the swift tracking and arrest of the suspect.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, commended the Divisional Police Officer and his team for their “professionalism and determination.”
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that justice is served.
CP Ado assured the public that the investigation will be concluded diligently, and the case will be charged to court upon completion.
