Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has sparked controversy with his bold remarks about the historical ownership of the Alaafin’s crown.
He made the statement during his visit to the Ooni of Ife on Saturday.
Speaking in Yoruba before the monarch, Igboho claimed that the crown associated with the Alaafin of Oyo did not originally belong to that royal lineage but was taken from his own father’s heritage.

He stressed his direct connection to Oduduwa, the progenitor of the Yoruba race, while challenging the narrative that positions the Alaafin as the sole custodian of such authority.
In his words, Igboho declared: “I’m supposed to be far from there because I’m the son of Aladigun, the son of original Oduduwa.
“I was the one they were praising now and I felt honoured.
“Alaafin cannot tell a story without mentioning my father.
“Alaafin has no crown, it was my father’s crown they collected and dashed Alaafin.”
The activist insisted that his father, Aladigun, played a central role in the Oduduwa dynasty and that history has sidelined this truth.
His remarks, delivered in Yoruba, carried weight not just as a political statement but also as a cultural assertion before the Ooni of Ife, regarded as the spiritual leader of the Yoruba.
Igboho’s claims are already drawing mixed reactions across the Southwest, with many awaiting possible responses from the Alaafin’s palace
