Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Seven Suspected Cultists With Human Skull


The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested seven suspected cult members in connection with cult-related attacks in Ikot Osura, located in the Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state.

According to PUNCH Metro on Monday, the suspects, reportedly affiliated with the banned “Ku Klux Klan” confraternity, were arrested while carrying a human skull.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, made this known in a statement issued in Uyo.

John stated that the arrests came after a student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osura, reported on August 25, 2025, that he had been ambushed and assaulted by members of the gang.

She explained that the victim, who had previously left the terror group, was left unconscious following the attack, and that his Redmi 13C Android phone along with N41,000 in cash were stolen.

The statement reads, ‘’On August 28, 2025, operatives of the command arrested seven suspects in connection with a cult-related assault, armed robbery, and unlawful possession of a firearm and human skull.

“The arrests followed a report received on August 25, 2025, from a student of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, that he was ambushed and attacked with dangerous weapons along Ikot Osurua by members of a proscribed cult group known as the Ku Klux Klan Confraternity.

“The victim, who had reportedly renounced his membership of the group, was left unconscious with severe injuries. The assailants also stole his Redmi 13C Android phone and N41,000 in cash.

“Acting on the report, police gathered intelligence and launched an operation that led to the arrest of the seven suspects.’’

She identified the suspects as Douglas Ambe Esikhene, Stephen Asukwo Effiong, and Saviour Dany Akpan. Others named were Emmanuel Friday Umoh, Augustine Uduak Okon, Mary Ating Asukwo, and Itohowo Christopher Uko.

The command’s spokesperson stated that a search of the suspects’ hideout yielded one locally made shotgun, seven live cartridges, a fresh human skull, a bottle containing a substance suspected to be black oil, and a bottle of Guyanese oil, all believed to be intended for ritualistic purposes.

She further revealed that the command has launched an investigation into the incident and is intensifying efforts to arrest other gang members and recover additional items.
