The management of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) has appealed to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to immediately restore electricity supply to the hospital following the death of some patients on life support.
In a statement signed by the Head of Information Unit, Hauwa Inuwa Dutse, the hospital expressed deep concern over the tragedy, noting that the loss of lives could have been averted if power supply had been sustained.
According to the statement, AKTH regularly pays its electricity bills from its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) while also committing huge resources to procure diesel for its generators to augment power supply from KEDCO.
“The management of AKTH appeals to KEDCO to support healthcare delivery services by restoring electricity to the hospital as it takes steps to defray outstanding bills,” the statement read.
The hospital assured that efforts were ongoing to clear the pending debts, stressing that cutting off power to a critical healthcare facility has dire consequences for patients and families.
