The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has commended the gallantry and professionalism of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel just as he inaugurated new infrastructure at the Logistics Command in Ikeja, Lagos.
The commissioned projects include a newly constructed Officers’ Accommodation Complex and a Corporals & Below Mess, aimed at improving the welfare of NAF personnel. Speaking at the event on Friday, Abubakar emphasized the importance of adequate housing in boosting morale and operational efficiency.
“A key factor in maintaining their focus and morale is providing them with befitting accommodation, which offers stability, dignity, and peace of mind,” he said. The new accommodation features six two-bedroom flats and six three-bedroom flats, underscoring the administration’s commitment to personnel welfare.
Abubakar noted that NAF has made significant progress in reducing its housing deficit, achieving a 25% reduction so far, with a target to cut the shortfall by half by the end of 2025. Out of 340 infrastructure projects initiated in 2024, 195 have been completed, while 145 are ongoing.
In addition to the officers’ quarters, the CAS also commissioned a Non-Commissioned Officers’ Mess, featuring nine ensuite bedrooms, two lounges, and modern amenities. Similar residential and welfare infrastructure projects are ongoing across various NAF units nationwide.
Highlighting Lagos’ strategic importance, Abubakar announced that the city will host the 4th African Air Forces Forum from May 21 to 23, 2025. He also revealed plans for Nigeria’s first international airshow in Lagos this December, in collaboration with the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
“These events will showcase Nigeria’s aviation capabilities globally, foster industry growth, and enhance international partnerships,” he stated.
The CAS expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his support and reaffirmed the NAF’s commitment to national security and the administration’s ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda.
The inauguration marks a significant step in the NAF’s efforts to enhance infrastructure, welfare, and operational efficiency as it prepares for a pivotal year ahead.
