The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, has pledged to partner with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) to enhance the academic growth and success of students across the state.
Otong, made the pledge, Tuesday when he received the leadership and members of NANS, comprising student leaders from various tertiary institutions in Akwa Ibom State, during a courtesy visit commended their dedication to learning and passion for academic excellence.
He lauded Governor Umo Eno’s consistent investment in education and students’ welfare, noting that every student-oriented bill passed by the Assembly had received the governor’s prompt assent.
He urged the students to remain focused, disciplined, and committed to their studies, assuring them that the Assembly would continue to enact policies that support education and youth development.
Also speaking, the Deputy Leader of the House, Nsidibe Akata, highlighted the legislature’s proactive roles in student development.
He cited the recent passage of the bill upgrading the Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit, to a University of Education as a clear demonstration of the Assembly’s commitment to advancing education.
In her remarks, the member representing Uruan State Constituency, Itorobong Etim, commended NANS for recognising the value of women in leadership, describing it as a positive reflection of inclusivity within the students’ movement.
Earlier, the NANS delegation, led by Patience Nyeneime, appreciated the Speaker for his consistent support for the student community.
She appealed for collaboration in organising a Legislative Mentorship Summit aimed at exposing students to the workings of the legislature and the process of policy-making.
The event climaxed at the presentation commendation award to the speaker by the students, lauded him for championing education-friendly legislation and for serving as a role model to young people.
