The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, (SAN) led other dignitaries on Saturday as a book titled “Buni Boy” was formally launched in Abuja.
At the official unveiling and presentation of the books, which was a tribute to the life and legacy of late Barrister Niyi Ayoola-Daniels, a legal practitioner and businessman, dignitaries present spoke glowingly about the book, the author and its timeliness.
The late lawyer founded the Buni Yadi Foundation (BYF) to support displaced and underserved communities.
Through his foundation, families were fed in IDP camps, medical care and life-saving surgeries were provided, boys in remand homes were supported, and scholarships that changed the trajectories of young lives were awarded.
The book, which is based on true life story centres around the late author’s personal experience and how he was able to turn the diversity of the Nigerian population into a platform for national healing, unity and development.
Dignitaries and personalties that graced the occasion included AGF Fagbemi SAN, Chairman Body of Benchers, Asiwaju Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, former AGF, Akin Olujimi, SAN, Chairman National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. There was also a video presentation and presentation of plaque to representative of late Alkali Kyari Imam, who also played a major role according to the book.
Delivering his goodwill message, AGF Fagbemi lauded the family of the author for their strength and contributions, saying the book would mentor and inspire many.
Awomolo, while dissecting the book, said the book was more than a chronicle of one man’s journey but that which brought to bear the complexity of the Nigerian cultural fabrics.
“The book invites us to embrace value of unity, emphaty and mutual respect.
“As we celebrate this remarkable publication, we should reflect and confront injustice in order to build a just society,” the learned silk said.
The guest speaker, Buba Marwa, who spoke on the subject “Unity/Strength in Nigeria’s Diversity”, said the book launching has presented yet another opportunity to amplify the message.
Recalling his days at the Nigerian Military School, Zaria, the NDLEA boss, said the students’ togetherness and unity defied all known sentiments and was without any tribal colorations.
“The book resonates with me. I particularly acknowledge the fact that in the middle of the experience, the author was able to come up with such a write-up as captured in the narrative,” he said.
Giving a welcome address earlier, the widow of the deceased, Mrs Leticia Ayoola- Daniels, described the publication as not just a book but a literature.
“It is a homecoming of memories, courage, and a strength that never fails.
” We are celebrating not just a book but literature, and that storytelling can transform a generation,” she said.
The book reviewer, Akinseye-George, SAN, said Niyi’s book was a highly inspiring literature and not fiction.
Fewer people out of the country’s larger population, according to the reviewer, are on the Internet, spewing wrong narratives that threaten the unity of the country.
“Going forward, those who believe in Nigeria should speak out and say no to disintegration. That was what the Buni Boy narratives were all about.
“I hereby recommend the book to the general public, seat of power, boardroom, classroom, universities and other citadel of learnings,” the senior lawyer stated.
Olujimi SAN and former AGF of Nigeria, the chief presenter, who led the official launching amidst pomp and pageantry, said there was a lot to learn from the book, urging universities and schools to have it in their libraries.
He thereafter launched it with N10 million.
