…Orders all appointees and LGA chairmen to leave offie with immediate effect

The speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly who won recognition of the Supreme Court Friday, February 28, 2025, has saluted Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister and former governor of Rivers State. He also ordered all appointees not screened by him to leave office immediately. He said they occupied the offices criminally.

In his first sitting in Port Harcourt after the ruling where he addressed his members and people of the state, Amaewhule thanked some persons who he said were significant in the development.

He said: “In particular, our gratitude goes to the political leader of Rivers State who is also the current Minister of the FCT- His Excellency, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike GSSRS. CON, Life Bencher, for his untiring efforts at ensuring an enduring peace and unity of our dear Rivers State.”

This declaration of Wike as the political leader of Rivers State across political parties may have sealed the speculations that Wike controls both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) first in Rivers State, and maybe far beyond. It may have also confirmed that it is Wike that Sim Fubara is contending with in the courts, not just Amaewhule (legislative and legal fronts) or even Tony Okocha (in the political front.)

Amaewhule praised the Judiciary to high heavens and he was leaving no stones unturned to right all wrongs and breaches of the law.

He issued a statement thus: “Today, Friday 28th February, 2025, the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly reconvened for the 123rd legislative day of the Second Session. During plenary and with the leave of the House, I utilized the opportunity to commend the Supreme Court of Nigeria for their well-considered decisions in the judgment delivered today which unarguably is a victory for democracy. We believe this judgment will mark the end to the malfeasance in the executive arm of the Rivers State Government.

“In the same vein we extended our profound gratitude to Rivers people, Rivers Elders Council and political leaders as well as followers for their prayers and support as we remain steadfast in defense of the mandate they gave to us. In particular, our gratitude goes to the political leader of Rivers State who is also the current Minister of the FCT- His Excellency, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike GSSRS. CON. Life Bencher for his untiring efforts at ensuring an enduring peace and unity of our dear Rivers State.”

He also saluted the legal team definitely who he said deserved accolades. “Their dedication and perseverance in all our matters would never be forgotten or go unappreciated. Many thanks to them.

“In conclusion, the legislative arm of government must never be allowed to be subjugated or annihilated by anyone in a constitutional democracy. The principles of separation of powers must remain our guide for our nascent democracy to stand. Rivers people won today and would benefit more in the long run.”
