The African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE), an initiative of Afrexim Bank, on Tuesday said it has so far raised $6 million through its foundation to provide quality healthcare for indigent Nigerians.
Brian Deaver, CEO of AMCE, said this during an update on the progress of the medical centre, which is set to launch in June 2025 in Abuja. The Centre aims to curb medical tourism by offering world-class medical services while creating opportunities for Nigerian doctors in the diaspora to return and practice locally.
To ensure the Hospital remains accessible and affordable, Deaver explained that the AMCE Foundation was established to receive donations that will subsidise care for patients unable to afford treatment.
“Additionally, we’ll use those funds for any capital required to expand our services. And it will also be used to fund certain types of research,” he stated.
Deaver expressed confidence that the hospital would commence operations as planned, providing specialised services such as cancer care, cardiovascular treatments, and the management of haematological and blood disorders.
“We will not only treat sickle cell disease but will also provide a permanent cure using stem cell technology,” he said. “For patients with heart blockages, we can prevent heart attacks by removing these blockages. In the case of cancer, we will employ various advanced diagnostic and treatment methods”, he further said.

Earlier, the CEO led key stakeholders in the AMCE and federal government delegation led by Barau Jibrin, the deputy Senate President on a tour of the hospital.
