Former Super Eagles forward, Brown Ideye, has officially retired from professional football after a career spanning nearly two decades across Europe, Asia, and Africa.
The 36-year-old made the announcement through a statement on his social media platforms, expressing gratitude to God, his family, fans, and everyone who played a role in his journey.
“After much thought and consideration with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football. I thank God for the talent and the long career I’ve enjoyed,” Ideye wrote.
He went on to appreciate his family, friends, coaches, teammates, agents, journalists, and fans for their support throughout his career.
Ideye played for clubs including Ocean Boys, Sochaux, Dynamo Kyiv, West Bromwich Albion, Aris Thessaloniki, Malaga, Tianjin Teda, and most recently, Enyimba International FC. Known for his clinical finishing, he earned a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most consistent strikers.
On the international stage, Ideye was part of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations-winning squad under the late Stephen Keshi. He featured 27 times for the Super Eagles, scoring six goals.
Reflecting on his journey, he said: “This game made me and gave me everything — incredible joy, sad days, the opportunity to travel and see the world, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories. To every fan who supported me, and to Nigeria for allowing me to wear the national colours, thank you.”
While bringing his playing career to a close, Ideye confirmed that football will remain central to his life. He has already taken up a new role as Director of Player Pathways & Partnerships at Atlantic Business FC, a Lagos-based club, where he is expected to help nurture the next generation of talent.
From winning league titles in Ukraine and Greece, playing in the Premier League, to lifting the AFCON trophy, Brown Ideye retires as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished modern forwards.
