Aero Contractors Records 137% Growth In Passenger Refunds As NCAA Hails Improved Compliance – Independent Newspaper Nigeria

Aero Contractors has reported a remarkable 137 per cent growth in passenger refunds for 2024, reflecting what aviation regulators describe as a significant improvement in airlines’ compliance with consumer protection standards.

According to figures released by the airline, a total of N257,195,724.39 was refunded to passengers between January and August 2025. This represents a sharp increase compared to N108,308,037.40 recorded over the same period in 2024 and N32,766,652.30 in 2023.

The surge highlights not only Aero’s responsiveness to customer claims but also the strengthening enforcement of Part 19 of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Regulations 2023, which governs consumer rights and compensation obligations within the industry.

In addition to refunds, the airline also disclosed its hotel accommodation (HOTAC) records for 2025. Between January and July, the airline spent N6,083,229 on passenger accommodation at several partner facilities, including Cocos Hotel, Grand Cubana Hotel, Abuja; NOCY Castle Hotel; Kim Royal Hotel; JC42 Apartment, Asaba; as well as Mayor & Diplomat Hotel, Lagos.

The NCAA noted that such expenditure underscores the airline’s commitment to ensuring stranded passengers receive the care mandated by regulation.

The Agency, while acknowledging the financial and operational pressures confronting airlines in Nigeria’s challenging business environment, commended the progress.

It reiterated its resolve to safeguard passenger rights and ensure continued compliance across the aviation sector.

“The figures above show that there is a remarkable improvement in compliance with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023,” the Authority stated, stressing that it would “continue to protect the rights of all stakeholders.”

The development is seen as a boost for consumer confidence at a time when Nigerian airlines are grappling with high operating costs, foreign exchange challenges, and rising passenger expectations.
