A potential crisis was averted in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government as the Legislative Council lifted the suspension imposed on Chairman Alhaji Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, just a day after it was imposed.
The decision to lift the suspension was arrived at following interventions by leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government to broker peace and stability between the chairman and the legislative members.
The crisis began on October 30, 2025, when the Legislative Council accused the Chairman of failing to present income and expenditure reports, despite several demands, but, with the reconciliation, he has started implementation of the council’s key demands, including income and expenditure transparency, paving the way for renewed cooperation between the Executive and Legislative arms of the local government.
The lifting of the suspension is a testament to the power of dialogue and cooperation, underscoring the Chairman’s commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.
With the suspension lifted, Alhaji Lawal Adewale Wasiu, FCA, can now focus on delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Ado-Odo/Ota.
The APC leaders and elders, including the Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele and the Member representing Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Hon. Tunji Akinosi, played a crucial role in brokering the peace and stability in the council.
Other key leaders who intervened include Hon. Sessan Fagbayi (Commissioner for Culture and Tourism), Chief Aiyedogbon, Hon. Lai Taiwo, Hon. Kazeem Salako, and the APC Party Chairman, Hon. Jimoh Akeran.
Leader of the House, Hon. Gbadamosi Mutairu Akanji, ACA, acknowledged the intervention of party leaders and confirmed that the council had resolved to lift the suspension after the chairman complied with one of their key demands of presenting financial reports.
“This decision is taken in the overall interest of peace, stability, and progress in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government,” Gbadamosi stated.
“Through renewed cooperation, we can deliver the dividends of democracy and restore confidence in grassroots governance.” He added.
The swift reversal of the suspension has been attributed to the intense public backlash, with many residents condemning the action as hasty, ill-advised, and politically motivated.
Despite the reinstatement, many residents insist that the legislative council’s credibility has been badly damaged, and critics have accused the lawmakers of playing politics with governance.
As the Chairman resumes his duties, it is expected that the council will work together to deliver good governance and development to the people of Ado-Odo/Ota. The lifting of the suspension is a victory for peace and stability in the local government and a testament to the effectiveness of dialogue and cooperation in resolving disputes.
