The Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) 2023 presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has warned Nigerians against politicians who switch parties without changing their political mindset.
He stressed that the country needs new leaders with fresh ideas to bring the desired change.

Speaking in an interview with journalists on Wednesday, Adebayo dismissed the credibility of the opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He explained that they had previously sought to use the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as their platform but failed to convince them during discussions.
According to him, the coalition leaders lacked ideological depth and were unable to provide satisfactory answers during their engagement.
“They came to us before they went to ADC; they were to use the SDP. We had a robust conversation with them.
“They had no answer to 99 percent of our questions. And we said, thank you very much; carry whatever you’re carrying to the next bus stop,” Adebayo said.
He insisted that the problem with Nigerian politics was not about political parties but the philosophy that drives politics, ranging from funding methods to governance ethics.
He emphasized that simply defecting from one party to another without changing political tendencies would only worsen the nation’s problems.
The SDP chieftain also dismissed claims that his party is factionalized, describing it instead as a party of law and order where its organs function effectively.
He added that only new politicians with integrity and innovative ideas can renew the nation, stating: “Now is the time for a new direction. We must bid farewell to poverty and insecurity.”
