Adamawa Police Rescue Five Children Abducted From Borno

Just a month after the Adamawa State Police Command successfully rescued 14 children abducted and taken to Anambra State, another five children have been rescued in Mubi Local Government Area of Adamawa State. The children were reportedly kidnapped from Borno State.

In a statement released on Sunday, the police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed that the rescued children were abducted from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, and brought into Adamawa.

“The Adamawa State Police Command has rescued another five children suspected to have been abducted and unlawfully brought from Maiduguri, Borno State, to Adamawa. On 13th September, 2025, the Area Commander Mubi, ACP Marcos Mancha, acted on timely and credible information, led his surveillance team, and intercepted five male children found wandering the streets of Mubi town,” the statement partly read.

The rescued children have been identified as Adamu Musa (16), Suleiman Idris (10), Suleiman Mohammed (11), Dauda Yahaya (11), and Mohammed Alhassan (11), all residents of Gwange, Maiduguri, Borno State.

Investigation revealed that the victims were unlawfully taken from Maiduguri by one Aliga Suleiman of Sabon Layi, Gwange, Maiduguri, who is currently at large. “Effort is ongoing to apprehend the suspect and bring him to justice,” the statement added.

The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, commended ACP Mancha and his team for the successful rescue and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case. The department is expected to ensure the arrest of the suspect and facilitate the possible reunification of the victims with their parents.

The CP reassured the public of the Command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property across Adamawa State.

This latest rescue highlights the persistent concern over child abduction in northern Nigeria, particularly in Borno and Adamawa states, which remain vulnerable due to insurgency, displacement, and human trafficking.

In August 2025, the Adamawa Police Command rescued 14 children who had been abducted from the state and were being trafficked to Anambra before police intervention. Likewise, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has reported several cases in recent years of minors being trafficked across state borders for exploitation.

Adamawa State, which shares a border with Borno, has become a frequent transit point for traffickers due to its porous routes and proximity to conflict-affected areas. Police and security agencies have intensified surveillance in border towns such as Mubi to combat this growing menace.
