Adamawa establishes mobile court to try defaulters as environmental cleaning begins

The Government of Adamawa State has established a mobile court to prosecute defaulters of the rules governing the monthly public environmental sanitation exercise that it has introduced.

This became evident Saturday when the sanitation exercise, scheduled for every last Saturday of the month, began.

As part of the rules, during the exercise, which is to last from 7am to 10am, residents are expected to be engaged in cleaning their space.

A notice to this effect which was earlier issued by the state Ministry of Information indicated that members of the public should clean their houses, surroundings, markets, shops and business premises in the indicated hours of the exercise.

Shedding further light on the exercise Saturday afternoon, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, said in a statement that the government means the sanitation routine to enhance societal cleanliness and good health.

The maiden edition of the exercise Saturday was monitored by a government delegation led by Fintiri’s Chief of Staff, Dr Amos Edgar who warned residents to stop building on waterways and indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages.

He said such restraints were necessary to overcome the yearly perennial flooding in many parts of the state.

“Going forward, the government will increase the level of awareness so that people will understand the importance of a clean environment,” Edgar Amos said.
